How to reset the root password on a Linux server.

If using GRUB boot loader, boot system up type "a" (without the quotes).

When you get to GRUB screen, type "single" at the end of existing line. This will bring up the system in single user mode.

In single user mode type "passwd" and provide the new values for the root password. Then type "reboot".
